Bizarre Beliefs

From the Bermuda Triangle to the Curse of Tutankhamun, the world is full of mysteries and beliefs. Some beliefs are held by many, some by a few. This talk will describe some of them, place them in their historical context and look at press and public attitudes toward them. Simon Hoggart won't make any judgements -- he would rather leave the audience to come up with its own conclusions. But he is certain to give us a fascinating account of some of the puzzles which have pestered us for so long.

Simon Hoggart rejoined The Guardian as political columnist in 1993 after a 12-year stint on The Observer as a political writer. He regularly writes The Guardian's parliamentary sketches as well as a general column on Saturdays. He originally joined The Guardian in 1968. He has made numerous radio and TV appearances on shows ranging from Radio Four's Today programme to BBC2's Have I Got News for You. He was made the 1987 British Press Awards Foreign Correspondent of the Year and has written nine books, mainly taking a humorous look at politics.
